Full course description

Description

n the 1890s, Afro-Cubans comprised about 15% of Ybor City’s population. They played a critical, often overlooked, role in the Cuban independence movement through labor, funding, and military leadership. Jesus Puerto, born in Ybor City, founder of the Soul de Cuba Cafe and a community development expert, will discuss how they operated as integral members of the revolutionary community, forming organizations like La Unión Martí-Maceo to promote "Cuba Libre" while navigating segregation in Florida
