Full course description

Description

Before the Great Depression, the alcohol industry was the 5th largest enterprise in the US.  Farmers sold their crops to the alcohol industry.  Saloons were heavily subsidized by breweries to sell their alcohol products.  When Prohibition came thousands of people in the industry were fired and farmers lost their sales to breweries. The loss of billions in tax revenue, and the millions spent on enforcement, contributed to economic downturn. We’ll explore the impact of Prohibition.
