Full course description
Description
Ben Jonson famously declared that William Shakespeare was "a man, not for an age, but for all time.” We will focus on this ageless Shakespeare as he grapples with social issues that are still relevant today. We will examine his indictment of anti-Semitism in The Merchant of Venice, his examination of racism, sexism and spouse abuse in Othello and his exploration of the concept of "masculinity” in Macbeth.
